38 Days (Part II) Federation Square Screens and No Vacancy Gallery, Melbourne

38 Days (Part I). Federation Square Screens. An ‘animated painting’ portrait of musician Delaney Davidson (Lyttelton, NZ), comprising 585 individual portraits painted over 38 consecutive days.

38 Days (Part II), No Vacancy Gallery. The installation of  paintings show the final image, or ‘residue,’ from each of the 38 days it took to complete the work.

Every portrait in 38 Days was painted in oils on 40 cm x 60 cm board.
Each painting was photographed before the board was wiped clean and painted again.
The ‘animated painting’ 38 Days (part I) is made from the photographs of 585 individually painted portraits.
Only the final painting at the end of each day’s work was kept, comprising the 38 physical portraits in 38 Days (part II).
